Linda Hobar, Author of The Mystery of HistoryHi!  My name is Linda Hobar.  Allow me to introduce you to The Mystery of History.  I wrote this curriculum with the hope of inspiring generations to know God and make Him known.  One way to do that is through the fascinating study of world history.  World history to me is not just dates, events, and revolutions – it’s the story of God revealing Himself to mankind.  And it’s the story of people.  Through prophets, priests, and paupers, God speaks.  Through Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit, and God’s Word, the Father reveals.  And you know what?  The epic story is still being told!  Some people bow down to Him; some don’t.  But God continues to make Himself known.

As you explore the following pages, I hope you find answers to your questions.  This curriculum is for all ages - children and adults. (Click here for Scope and Sequence possibilities.) Yes, it is a classical, chronological, complete curriculum with fun activities for younger ones, and tests and research projects for older students.  Allow me to elaborate on these features:

Classical – The Mystery of History is classical for two reasons. For one, it is based on the classics of time that scholars, poets, and commoners have read and re-read.  Classics in literature, music, art, and philosophy are all found here.  Second, the curriculum is structured to follow a popular classical approach to learning with an emphasis on reading, writing, and research.  Ideally, a student can recycle the material as they mature in age by advancing to the next level of activities provided after each lesson.  Numerous options are provided to address all the learning styles.

Chronological – The Mystery of History follows history in the order that it happened all over the world.  By keeping a growing timeline and a Student Notebook divided by continents, students are able to pull together what was happening when and where.  Like ornate beads on a string, they can thread the stories together and take them apart again. Christian – The Mystery of History is written from a Christian world view and uniquely weaves world cultures and stories of the past alongside the events of the Bible.  But it is much more than that.  The lessons in The Mystery of History are like fragments of a mosaic that only begin to reveal a much bigger picture and tell a farther reaching story.   Come.  Open your heart and mind to this incredible journey through the ages where the finger prints of God are apparent.  I invite you to discover His-story.

Complete – The Mystery of History contains pretests to spark interest, lively lessons, hands-on/research based activities, timeline instructions, mapping work, memory cards, quizzes and semester tests.  Though it is not necessary to supplement the reading, each volume contains a quality list of supplemental books and films for enrichment.
(Though recommended, it is not necessary to complete the volumes in the order they are written.)

In the words of Paul:

“I was made a minister. . . that I might fully carry out the preaching of the word of God, that is the mystery which has been hidden from the past ages and generations; but has now been manifested to His saints, to whom God willed to make know what is the riches of the glory of this mystery. . . which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. And we proclaim Him, admonishing every man and teaching every man with all wisdom, that we may present every man complete in Christ.”  (Colossians 1:25-28)
